On June 4, 2025, the kick off meeting for the initiative to use Peppol in B2B transactions between Japan and Finland was held at Paasitorni, a historic conference center in Helsinki, co-hosted by the Peppol Authority of Japan and Finland. Four Japanese companies operating in Finland and six service providers from Finland participated. The clear, early summer sky in Helsinki reminded us of the color of Peppol.

Mr.Lasse Skog (Head of department (Economy and Working  Life)) of the Finnish State Treasury gave opening speech emphasizing that the role of utilizing structured data Peppol in global interoperability is important, and that promoting Peppol in collaboration with Japan Peppol Authority and anticipating its future is a very meaningful activity.

The participating Japanese companies recognize the need for e-invoice in their activities in Finland, and are particularly interested in this initiative in order to find the best solution for preparing for what will happen in Europe in the future. This was confirmed by the proactive activities of each company, such as setting up Peppol ID, announcing Peppol ID to business partners, conducting demonstration trials, and making specific inquiries to service providers about Peppol related service. On the other hand, there are some practical headaches in reality, such as persuading the relevant department at headquarters and connecting with the current internal system (system upgrades).  It was also found that this initiative would be an opportunity to advance discussions within the company. The role of service providers who can proactively propose data conversion and automation services to users ‘who want to use Peppol’ will become even more important in the future.

The Finnish Peppol Authority made a supportive comment to the participants if they have any problems. The meeting ended with a promise to strive to use Peppol where possible, such as between domestic companies that are ready for Peppol and with companies in countries where it is relatively widespread, being said to regularly hold such meetings to share information with best practices.

We will continue to actively propose use cases, and promote 'Peppol Inside', which seeks new added value (happiness) with users.
