Kunichan Farm in Haguro-Machi, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture is busy harvesting Shonai persimmons during this autumn season. These persimmons are also called Hiratanenashi. This time, we will be conducting a pilot test using QMS TRACE with the aim of developing new markets for dried persimmons, which will soon be in full production, and increasing awareness of the product.
In one season, the farm produces 12 tons of persimmons. The persimmons are carefully selected according to their size for either eating raw or drying. On the day of our visit, the persimmons were being harvested and selected for drying.
The persimmons selected for drying are produced according to the proper local procedures. The finished dried persimmons are marked with a QR and are scheduled to be delivered to new customers in Tokyo who have shown interest in the product.
In addition to dried persimmons, Kunichan Farm also produces cherries and peaches. This time, we had the opportunity to taste their new peach jam.
The elementary school students from nearby schools also visit Kunichan Farm as a part of social learning. We will continue with the pilot test in the hope that we can use QMS TRACE to deliver the trust and security of the farm to many more new customers.
